While Bangkok has plenty of things to offer to the tourists that visit the beautiful city, from delectable food to stunning architecture, one of the things that should never be missed is the stunning temples that reside in the capital. Unlike some of the more “laid-back” designs of western houses of worship, Thailand’s Buddhist temples go all-out in terms of aesthetics. You’ll be greeted by golden statues surrounded by beautiful murals and mosaics that tell a story of Buddha’s teachings.

With that said, unless you have all the time in the world, we wouldn’t recommend that you visit every temple in the city, as they’re thousands of them. Because of that, we’ve prepared a list of temples to help you view some of the best temples that the city has to offer, as well as keeping it short and sweet!

Here are three amazing temples in Bangkok, Thailand, that you must visit:

1.Wat Mahadhat

After a long journey flying into Thailand, you may be up for some relaxing temple visits. If so, head for Wat Mahadhat. It isn’t as touristy as some of the other temples that will be mentioned in this list, but that doesn’t mean the temple is any less amazing. There are some things you might be able to do here, which is quite impossible in the others, such as chatting with the residing monks.

The place itself is quite small, made up of a few buildings with a small courtyard. Despite its smaller size, however, you’ll get to know plenty of how Thai Buddhism feels like.

2.Wat Phra Kaew

if you’re given the choice of only one temple to visit at your stay in Bangkok, make it Wat Phra Kaew. This stunning temple is found inside the Grand Palace, a place that was once home to the Kings of Thailand. Nowadays, it is a place that is utilized for different state functions, and it is also open to the public to explore.

The temple itself is found inside the grand palace, holding in it an impressive Buddha statue that was made entirely out of emerald. Even if it may be much smaller than you’d expect, it’s still a wonder to behold. If that isn’t enough for you, know that the Grand Palace holds a myriad of different structures. With so many amazing details etched into every structure, don’t be surprised if you will be in awe at every statue that you see.

3.Wat Pho

If you want to be amazed by one of the most beautiful Buddhas you can ever see, head over to Wat Pho. There, you’ll find a reclining Buddha covered by pure gold leaf—a sight you will never, ever forget. The statue is so amazing that you may just become bored with any other temple you visit after this one.

The temple also offers plenty of other beautiful sights to behold. You’ll find hallways lined with golden statues and stupas covered with beautiful mosaics.

Of all the different activities to do and places to visit in Bangkok, do miss out on the opportunity to visit at least one of the many temples, especially the ones we’ve listed on this list. We guarantee that your time will be filled with amazements as you marvel at the beauty of Thailand’s Buddhist temples.
