Despite what’s happening in the capital city of Thailand, it’s still worth visiting. Yes, it may be a little chaotic in Bangkok right now, but whatever is going on is only a small part of what the city is all about. It can’t be denied that there is so much to do and see in Bangkok. No matter what, it’ll always be a great travel destination. Through its capital city, Thailand can prove that it truly is the land of smiles. If you have no idea what to do when you get to Bangkok, here’s a list of five ways you can make the most of your time there.

Smile and Say Hi

There’s no better way to enjoy Bangkok than to interact with the locals. Talking to the people who live there is a great way to immerse yourself in the city’s culture. Say hi to your immediate neighbors or people you meet on the street. If anything, they will offer you a smile or two. Thai people always seem to be smiling. You can count on their warm hospitality and good nature. No matter where you’re from, they will make you feel at home.

Sleep and Stay

Another thing to consider when you’re in Bangkok is where you can stay while you’re there. It’s undeniable that the capital city is home to world-class accommodations. You can check into a five-star luxury hotel or get a comfortable dorm bed for under $10. Most of the accommodations in the city are only a stone’s throw away from places that are worth exploring. Try to Google places to stay in Bangkok, and you’ll get a long list of guesthouses and hotels to choose from.

Savor and Sightsee

There are many ways to savor the culture of Thailand, and one of them is by sightseeing. In Bangkok, you can see modern architecture next to old-style buildings. For one, you can visit the teak house of former prime minister M.R. Kukrit Pramoj in the heart of the financial district. You may also drop by the Suan Pakkad Palace and admire the fine antiquities on display there. Another interesting place to visit is the home of Jim Thompson, the former American CIA agent who saved Thailand’s silk industry back in the 1960s.

Search and Shop

There are also plenty of places to shop in Thailand. On top of the list is Thailand’s main staple in the clothing department—Thai silk. You will definitely be advised to visit one of the several Jim Thompson factory outlets. It’s an excellent place to buy some souvenirs. But of course, there’s more to the silk industry in Thailand. Try to visit the Chatuchak Weekend Market, where thousands of stalls are set up in a large area the size of a football field. You can buy practically everything there, including Buddha statues, clothes, and various knickknacks.

Sup and Sip

Thailand is famous for its food. Thai cuisine is tagged as one of the best in the whole world, as it’s flavorful and spicy. You should check out Cafe Siam, built in a renovated house that was owned by the first governor of the Thai Railways in the 1920s. Also, you may try the elegant Baan Khanita or understated Lemongrass which are located across the road from the gleaming department store Emporium. These are only a few examples, but there are plenty of great places to eat in Bangkok. You just have to know where to look.
